Significance of Indian festival Guru Purnima

1. Name of the festival

Guru Purnima 


2. Celebration date

    Celebrated every year on the full moon day of Ashada month as per Indian calendar, which falls in between June and July months as per English calendar. In 2022 it was on Wednesday, 13 July. In 2023 it will be on Monday, 3 July.

3. Celebration mode

On this day, Sishyas (disciples) worship or pay gratitude to their Guru.

4. Celebrated by

Hindus, Buddhists, Jains of India, Nepal etc

5. Significance of the festival

    Guru Purnima festival is celebrated to express respect and gratitude towards Gurus (Guide). 

    As per Sanskrit literature, 

Guru = Gu + Ru

where “Gu" means 'darkness (of ignorance)’ and "Ru" means 'the light (of knowledge)’[1]. 

    Guru shows the correct path to his/ her students/ followers (Sishyas).

As per Hindu mythology, Guru Purnima is celebrated to mark the birthday of Ved Vyasa. Ved Vyasa edited the Vedas and the Puranas and the Mahabharata.

    As per Jainism on this day, Lord Mahavir became the celebrated guru to Gautam Swami, his first disciple.

 According to Buddhism Lord Gautam Buddha delivered his first religious discourse to his first five disciples in Sarnath.

All particles are categorized into two groups based on their spin and statistical behavior : Fermions Bosons Fermions: Possess half-integer spin (e.g., 1/2, 3/2, 5/2) Follow Fermi-Dirac statistics Obey the Pauli exclusion principle (no two identical fermions can occupy the same quantum state) Bosons: Possess integer spin (e.g., 0, 1, 2) Follow Bose-Einstein statistics Do not obey the Pauli exclusion principle (multiple bosons can occupy the same quantum state) Hadrons are classified based on their spin : Baryons → Have half-integer spin (e.g., 1/2, 3/2)   Mesons → Have integer spin (e.g., 0, 1) Following particles are fundamental particles Leptons Bosons Quarks However, hadrons are not fundamental but composite particles.  In single bracket, we can see the actual meaning / origin of the word from Greek language.
